Bush Mango (Ogbono)

Stakeholders in the bush mango (ogbono) sub-sector have disclosed that it would establish a nursery in each of the geopolitical zones to help control and regulate the propagation of good planting.

Bush mango (ogbono) is a profitable forest fruit tree found in West and Central Africa, which kernels are widely traded regionally and internationally for ethnic markets.

Chief Nnadozie Udensi the National President, National Ogbono Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria (NOPPMAN), who made this known in Abuja recently, said the expanding and growing market for the seed kernels requires that the product has quality characteristics to enhance the marketability.

He said the association’s target is to boost plantation development by encouraging, supervising and assisting farmers to establish and domesticate the plantation using best known professional methods while opening opportunities to individuals and institutions for collaboration.

Udensi while soliciting the support of financial institutions, he also called on the government to assist in the area of land acquisition and equipment.

“This will not only improve the economy in terms of revenue generation but will go as far as reducing unemployment and generating employment opportunities for our youths,” Udensi added.
