The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has uncovered a fake Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Computer Based Test registration centre in Borno State.
The state’s Corps Commandant, Ibrahim Abdullahi, told newsmen on Sunday in Maiduguri, the state capital that his men discovered that operators of the fake centre were defrauding applicants.
“Without any doubt, the command had discovered that the Computer Based Test Centre (CBT) is fake. Even the server is for Abia state,” he said.
Abdullahi stated that the fake centre was uncovered on Thursday at the Kawu Shopping Complex along Lagos Street of the metropolis.
He also disclosed men of the command also arrested a 31-year-old Abizo Precious Idowu, from Imo saying the suspect had collected N1, 200 each to register about 180 students under the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
“His accomplices are on the run but the command is doing all it can to track them. We will make sure he refunded all the money he collected from the students while he will be made to face the law,” he said.
The Corps Commandant warned unsuspecting candidates to be wary of fraudsters while processing their registration.
“We therefore warned JAMB applicants to be wary of fraudsters disguising as JAMB facilitators,” he said.
