The overseeing Director-General, National Board for Technology Incubation (NBTI), Mr Akinwumi Shomefun said its activities were tailored towards achieving the Federal Government’s accelerated development initiatives.

The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) reports that Shomefun said this at the launch of NBTI ‘s service charter on Tuesday in Abuja.

He said the mandate of NBTI was to commercialise technology and technical innovation/invention using technology Incubation as a tool, in order to enhance the attainment of technological and industrial competitiveness.

“One of the mandates that supports FG’s social economic development initiative is the NBTI’s technology Incubation programme.

“The programme underscores the desire of the government to bring about accelerated development through the promotion of research and development, skill acquisition and small- scale entrepreneurial development,”  Shomefun  said.

The D-G said the charter contained the agency’s and customer’s expectation and obligations and encourages which must be observed in transparency and accountability.

“ The launch of the service charter is a clear testimony that NBTI is determined more than before to render quality, efficient and prompt service to its customers.

“It means that NBTI will be customer-focused, providing services that are useful and relevant for our existing and potential customers,” he said.

Shomefun promised to continue its culture, structure and operation geared towards knowing and satisfying customers’ needs and expectations.

NBTI’s Head of Service Compact (SERVICOM), Mr. Adolphus Ugwu said the purpose of launching the service charter was to ensure all NBTI management and staff internalized their roles/responsibilities in service delivery.

“ This is to ensure all members of management and staffers of the board get acquainted with their respective roles/responsibilities towards actualizing the agency’s service delivery initiative.

“ I want us to note that we have entered into a commitment or treaty to deliver quality and efficient service to the public and other Stakeholders as enshrined in the SERVICOM Nigeria,” he said.

Ugwu promised to ensure compliance evaluation in all departments in the Headquarter, Zones and Centers, in line with the set standard.

On her part, the National Coordinator/CEO of SERVICOM Nigeria, Mrs Nnena Akajemeli, said that the programme was important for a service providing agency such as NBTI.

She added that public service was a major point of contact of people and the government.

“ SERVICOM focuses on improving the quality of services in all ministries, departments and agencies,” Akajemeli said.

She added that the quality of governance was determined by the quality of services citizens enjoy.

“ The citizens expect quality service from government establishments hence the need for a service charter.

“ A tool that communicates the expectations of the citizens is the service charter,” Akajemeli said.

NAN also reports that the programme was organised by Daho Global Resources in partnership with NBTI.
