The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has enjoined Peoples With Disabilities (PWD’s) to come out and participate in the forthcoming Anambra State gubernatorial election scheduled for 6th of November, 2021.
The Commission assured people of the state that the governorship election will be highly transparent noting that it has put facilities in place to achieve an all inclusive electoral process. INEC’s Anambra State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Dr. Nwachukwu Orji, made the call to the PWD’s across the state during a voter education and sensitization forum purposely organised for the disabled.
Dr. Orji who was represented at the event by by INEC Head of Voter Education and Publicity, Samuel Nimem, said that the commission has successfully carried out most of the activities on schedule for the election.
He noted that the forthcoming governorship election will be use by INEC to debunk insinuations and beliefs in certain quarters that the commission take part in election rigging or commits electoral fraud.
“INEC is ready on every stage for this election. The electoral materials that got burnt recently in an attack have been replace, non-sensitive materials have been distributed to all local government areas and training of officials and ad-hoc staff is on-going as I speak to you.
“We have pasted and presented voter’s register to the political parties fielding candidates, we have published the final list of the candidates and we have been engaging stakeholders to ensure adequate security at polling units. With all facilities in place and with electronic transmission of results, I tell you that Anambra election will be convincingly transparent. This will build confidence in our electoral system,” he said.
Addressing the PWD’s, Orji described them as very important citizens adding that this was the reason why INEC give them special attention by creating an inclusive environment for them all. “You need to participate fully in the electoral process because you are all citizens of Nigeria and have the right to vote and be voted for. I assure you that we (INEC) are doing all we can to ensure your safety,” he assured the PWD’s.
