The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara joined Borno elders to commend President Muhammadu Buhari for the feat achieved in securing the release of 82 Chibok girls held in captivity by the Boko Haram.
Dogara, in a statement issued in Bauchi on Sunday by his media aide, Turaki Hassan described the release as delightful and heartening.
The speaker also commended the efforts of security agencies and others involved in the negotiation process.
“Last month, the House of Representatives adopted a motion, urging the Executive to expedite negotiation for the release of the schoolgirls who remained in captivity, and the news of the release of 82 Chibok girls is delightful, to say the least”.
“President Buhari has further proven that he is a man of his words, as he could have used the initial inaction by the previous administration as an excuse to not take action, but he didn’t.
“It has been said in many quarters that true leadership is defined not by apportioning blame, but by solving challenges irrespective of their genesis, and the President deserves all commendation for this feat. It is extremely gladdened that these 82 girls will finally be reunited with their families,” he said.
Meanwhile, Borno Elders Forum also described reports of the release of 82 Chibok school girls from the Boko Haram insurgents as a good omen.
The Secretary of the forum, Dr Mali Gubio told newsmen in Maiduguri that credit must go to President Muhammad Buhari.
“We are extremely happy to hear the news on the release of the girls; we are grateful to God for showing us this day. We believe that Buhari deserve great commendation on this,” he said.
“The President has done so much and he is doing well in piloting the affairs of the nation. We pray to Almighty Allah to grant him good health, so that he can continue the good work he is doing,” he added.
