At least, two persons have been confirmed dead and 17 others injured by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) after an explosion that occurred in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.
NEMA disclosed that the attack on Sunday was carried out by two suicide bombers-a male and female, who approached the popular Monday market in the city before detonating the devices.
The agency information officer, Sani Datti, disclosed that the two victims were the suicide bombers but that 17 persons were injured, saying they have been evacuated to the Specialist Hospital in Maiguduri, where they will receive adequate medical treatment.
The attack came barely two days after 56 persons were killed in a twin suicide attacks in Madagali, Adamawa state, last week.
Chairman of Madagali Local Government, Yusuf Muhammed added that 177 persons were injured in the twin blasts that threw the state into mourning.
He said the critically injured were rushed to Mubi General Hospital and Yola Specialists Hospital, while those that sustained minor injuries were treated and discharged .
Madagali Market operates on Fridays and the two blasts occurred at the grains and second hand clothes sections of the market.
The council boss appealed to the federal, state governments, relevant donors and humanitarian agencies to come to the aid of the people.
Recall that 56 persons were killed and 177 injured in twin blasts that hit Madagali Market on Friday in Adamawa.
