The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has congratulated Minister of Environment, Amina Mohammed on her appointment as United Nations (UN) Deputy- Secretary General, saying it was well deserved.
Saraki said Mohammed’s appointment at the UN is a testament of her competence, and an acceptance by global community of her ability as a reformer.
It would be recalled that UN Secretary- General, Antonio Guterres yesterday in an announcement through his spokesman, Stephanie Dujarric appointed Mohammed as his Deputy- Secretary General.
The Senate president in a statement on Friday said Mohammed has demonstrated over the years that she is in a class of her own as a technocrat, adding that she has also performed creditably in a her role as the environment minister.
“She has demonstrated over the years that she is in a class of her own as a technocrat, In her tenure at the Environment Ministry, which is exactly one year today, we have seen and felt her positive impact at the helm of its affairs.
“I urge Hon Mohammed to use her new position to demonstrate the urgency for more international intervention and donations in the North East.
“On our part, the National Assembly will continue to support all positive development strides of the UN, with the belief that such initiatives will better the lives of Nigerian citizens.” The statement reads in part.
