The Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has assured civil servants in the State that the current economic recession will not affect their welfare.

Ambode gave the assurance on Tuesday at presentation of 2015 Lagos State Productivity Order of Merit Award held in Ikeja, themed ‘Productivity for sustainability entrepreneurship and employment: the Role of government in achieving sustainability.

The governor who was represented by Secretary to State Government, Tunji Bello, noted that unstable foreign exchange rate and economic recession currently rocking the country would not deter  harmony and peaceful coexistence that had often existed between government and workers.

According to him, achievements recorded by his administration were due to cooperation and synergy between government and the public service system.

“This is largely due to the spirit of understanding, cooperation and mutual respect that is nurtured and sustained through the vehicle of the public service joint negotiating council.” he said.

He maintained that his administration had kept faith with its avowed commitment of upholding staff welfare and boosting their morale.

Ambode noted that the organization of the State productivity award was one of such incentives used by the government to further encourage staffs in the state.

Also, the State Head of Service, Olabowale Ademola said that the State Government has regarded the trade unions as partners in attainment of developmental goal of the government.

Ademola said,  “The tremendous contribution of the State government towards the growth and development of industrial peace and harmony in the state through the creation of conducive environment for all public servants cannot be over emphasized.”
