The Federal Government on Wednesday approved N1.685 billion for renovation of international wing of Port Harcourt Airport, River State.
The Minister of State for Aviation, Hadi Sirika disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council Meeting in Abuja.
Sirika, who said the contract was awarded to Messes Entaba, added that the council also approved contract for refurbishment of the airport’s terminal building, phase II domestic wing, from N746, 830, 782.12 to N1,411,662,855.67.
He noted that the projects were captured in 2016 and 2017 budgets, assuring that they would be completed very soon.
‘’The Port Harcourt Airport had been tagged the worst in the world but by God grace and wisdom of the council, it will be completed.” he said.
Sirika said that federal government would also address airport security and safety alongside the rehabilitation, adding that a stakeholders’ meeting would hold on the development by month end.
The minister added that the FEC also approved bilateral agreement against double taxation with Kenya together with ratification of Climate Change Paris Agreement.
It could be recalled that SleepingInAirports.net rated Port Harcourt Airport as the worst airport in the world, a ranking the Federal Government frowned at and faulted.
