The police on Wednesday arraigned four club bouncers who allegedly stole club’s ticket booklet worth N730, 000 and secretly sold the tickets to customers before a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court sitting on the Island.
The defendants are, Mathew Benedict, 32, David Arojie, 28, Christian Ubi, 30 and Usen Hope, 19 and are standing trial on a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and theft preferred against them by the police.
The prosecutor, Inspector Ben Ekundayo told the court that the defendants committed the alleged offences on September 5 at about 10:30p.m. at Gentlemen’s Club, Addo Road, Ajah Lagos.
He said “The defendants, who were bouncers in charge of security and sales of tickets at Gentlemen’s Club, stole one of the club’s ticket booklet.”
He also added that the defendants secretly sold the stolen tickets to customers and shared the proceeds amongst themselves.
“When the club owner got wind of what was going on, he ordered a search and the stolen ticket booklet was found in the pocket of the first defendant. Benedict mentioned that he shared the proceeds from the sales of the stolen ticket with others,” he alleged.”
The prosecutor however said that the offence committed is Punishable under Sections 285 (8) and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
However the defendants denied the charges and they were granted N200, 000 bail each with one surety each.
The Magistrate, Ade Adefulire said that the defendants must provide one responsible surety each who are account owners with banks in Lagos State.
He said that the statement of account should be verified by the prosecutor and adjourned the case to October 25 for hearing.
