The Movement for Peace, Justice and Pacific Resolution has called on its members to shun the planned nationwide protests.
The President of the group, Prof. Kabir Jabaka, disclosed this in a statement issued in Gusau on Tuesday.
Jabaka said, “The movement wishes to inform the general public that it renounces any form of insurrection in the name of protest or otherwise.
“This is to call the state chapters of this group to shun the impending planned nation wide protest.
“As a peaceful resolution promoting movement and as proven by our long outstanding researches, the planned protests are an ill-wind that blows nobody any good.
”Hence the appeals for restraint to properly register our plight with the authorities concerned for dialogue for viable lasting solutions.
“Nobody is in darkness about the fact that due to our long standing insecurity our country is awash with illegally possesed firearms.”
He said that the group was never oblivious of the fact that what has not been achieved by compromise can never be achieved by war and all wars’ grievances.
Jabaka said, “We however fully discern the plight of the public and thus rest assure the public of taking the onus to properly register their plight with the leadership of the Senate, House of Representatives and the Executive appealing for a quick intervention to address the situation.”
He called for the declaration of a state of emergency in food security in the nation by quickly subsidising food and other essential commodities, facilitating and supporting sufficient supplies in the markets.
Jabaka also appealed to the government to look into the possibility of quickly swinging into action in restoring larger part of fuel subsidy.
