Osun State Government has announced the inauguration of 8-man committee to engage youths in Agricultural practices across the State.

The inauguration according Coordinating Director Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Youth Engagement, Dr Oluwabukola Aluko was an attempt to support 40 German-trained youths and to also revamp its economy.

He said the ministry had inaugurated an 8 member inter-Ministerial Committee that would facilitate engagement of the youths in modern farming practices in the State.

Aluko disclosed that the government had also approved release of 50 hectares of land at Ago-Owu farm settlement for the youths; adding that they had received requisite training in excellent modern agricultural practices in Germany.

He said the youths were eager to embrace farming as a means of livelihood due to exposure they got from their training overseas.

He noted that about N100 Million was spent for training the 40 beneficiaries abroad.

He also said that Osun youths could also enjoy maximum benefits from their experience through “the train the trainer’’ programme if necessary support was given to them to create an enabling condition for them to practice what they have learnt.

The Coordinating Director maintained that, the government’s effort to support the youths in agriculture is in accordance with Rauf Aregbesola’s integral road map geared towards banishing hunger and unemployment through agriculture.

He urged the committee members to achieve the set goal of resettling them to their farms to work relentlessly within the limited time frame.

Also, the training facilitator, Dr. Gbele Olamilekan said experience garnered by the youths had become an asset to Osun.
