The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has said that it is repositioning  Ikorodu Lighter Terminal to create more jobs in the sector through export of Agricultural produce.

A statement issued by NPA’s General Manager Public Affairs, Chief Michael Ajayi said that the agency’s Board chairman, Emmanuel Adesoye gave the hints during an inspection exercise at the terminal.

According to Adeoye, the repositioning was part of measures to ensure full and effective utilization of the port facility.

He said the facility is a “Gold Mine” which the Authority must find a way to put it into good use.

Adesoye said Management should  encourage export trade through the terminal especially agricultural produce with a view to making the location a notable Maritime Hub in the sub region.

This he said will enhance industrialisation which would in turn also yield more dividends at this critical time facing the nation.

Adesoye explained that the move is also expected to create employment for Nigerians.

He stressed the need for all stakeholders in the Maritime Sub-sector to form a common goal towards making the port industry choice destination.

He identified issues bordering on the adherence to occupational, health and safety as  panacea to efficient Port services in line with international best practices.

Adesoye said the management was “desirous of ensuring that the mission of the organisation which is To deliver Efficient Port Services in a safe, secure and customer friendly environment was brought to bear at all times”.
