Hosts Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin on Wednesday defeated Adamawa United FC of Yola 3-0 in one of the matches of the ongoing 2016/2017 Nigeria National League (NNL).
It would be recalled that the Match Day 11 fixture played at the Kwara Stadium Complex in Ilorin saw team leading goalscorer Michael Ohanu bagging a hat-trick.
Former Kwara United defender Gabriel Peter brought down Stephen Alfred for a penalty kick Ohanu stepped forward to take to score his first goal in the match’s 14th minute.
Kwara United dominated most of the proceedings in the first 45 minutes of the game and were always dangerous moving forward.
They underlined their dominance in the 23rd minute when Ohanu skipped past Adamawa United’s defenders to connect a pass from Sunday Odudu and simply tap home.
Adamawa United came out stronger in the second half but were wasteful in front of goal.
Ohanu completed his hat-trick in the 68th minute when he capitalised on a defensive error to score.
After the match, Kwara United’s coach John Obuh however said there was still a lot of job to be done in the team as the season progresses.
“We could have scored more goals today but we thank God we won. We are still on course though,’’ he said.
Adamawa United FC officials however refused to speak with newsmen after the game.(NAN)
