Nigeria Records 83.33% Reduction in Road Crashes Fatalities

Corps Marshal, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Boboye Oyeyemi on Thursday said that the country has recorded 83.33per cent reduction in road accident related deaths between January and September this year.

 

Oyeyemi whi spoke at a press conference in Abuja also stated that the corps recorded a 77.19 percent reduction in Road Traffic Crash (RTC) in the same period.

 

According to him, there was the need to keep up on the improvement and ensure that it gets better during the festive season.

 

This he said informed deployment of 36, 000 personnel as well as sufficient logistics put in place across the country to ensure that highways were free and safe for travellers.

 

He said the personnel will work to prevent traffic gridlock that will affect travellers during the festive season adding that 200 active mobile courts have been put in place to prosecute defaulting drivers.

 

The Corps Marshal called on all commercial and private drivers to avoid overloading their vehicles while travelling on the highways to avoid crash or inconvenience while stressing that “I will arrest anyone I see carrying overload.”
