The training and services were basically on Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV) issues , legal representation, advice and counseling on the legal frame of SGBV, human rights, employment issues, tenants and landlord issues among others.

Bose Ironsi, WRAHP Director, said that the legal clinic programme was aimed at providing services that would assist underprivileged and marginalised members of the communities.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NGO is supposed to train 50 people from each LCDA but 96 participated in the training.

WRAHP is also the manager of Ireti Resource Center in partnership with ActionAid Nigeria.

Ironsi said the programme would ensure that underprivileged communities have access to justice, especially girls and women who are survivors of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV).

She said that the programme provided an opportunity for the community members to access pro-bono lawyers.

“This clinic, typically offers services such as legal representation, advice and counseling on the legal frame of SGBV, human rights, employment issues, tenants and landlord issues.

“Assistance with safety planning and accessing other resources on SGBV” she said.

The WRAHP director further said that the training was funded by Global Affairs, Canada and implemented through Action Aid Nigeria.

She also said the legal clinic was part of WRAHP’s efforts to ensure that survivors are well informed on their rights and legal issues.

One of the participant, Mr Habib Rabiu, said the legal clinic was an eye opener which had enlightened him about many things he knew little about.

Rabiu, a community leader and landlord said that the disability laws got his attention most as he got to know that a disabled person could modify a building for assessment.

Experts who trained the participants had sessions on Legal Framework Guiding Employment, Legal Framework Guiding Property and Special People Law.
