President Muhammadu Buhari has received the Boko Haram insurgents’ flag recovered from the Sambisa Forest by the military.
The flag was presented to Buhari in Abuja by the theatre commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major-General Lucky Irabor, late Friday night at the 2016 Regimental Dinner organised by the Presidential Brigades of Guards.
The President said he was nearly shot before he collected his first salary after joining the military, saying he was familiar with soldiers’ problem having encountered it himself.
“I believe you are here because you want to be here and you cannot complain. We will do our best to build the national institutions in the country,” he said.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, assured that the security challenges in parts of Nigeria would be surmounted and pledged that the military would remain apolitical in discharging its responsibilities to the country.
