Maternal Mortality: Kebbi Govt. Seeks Synergy with NGOs

The Kebbi Government through its Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Halima Hassan-Kamba, has called for synergy with donor agencies and NGOs to promote gender equality, nutritional value chain and to reduce maternal mortality in the state.
The commissioner made the call when she received members of NGOs in the state, who paid her a courtesy visit in her office in Birnin Kebbi.
The commissioner said that donor agencies and NGOs have vital roles to play in promoting gender equality, nutritional value chain and reduce maternal mortality in the state and the country at large.
Hassan-Kamba said “the presence and activities of NGOs and donor agencies will promote healthcare services and reduce poverty among less privileged persons in the society.
“We need to collaborate in the areas of childbirth, nutrition, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and maternal mortality, among others.”
She pointed out that arrangements had been concluded for the establishment of nutrition department in the ministry, which she said, would go a long way in supporting malnutrition activities in the state.
Responding, , Mrs Esther Hinali, the leader of the delegation and Executive Director, Association of Women Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (ASWHAN),
Kebbi branch, said that the aim of the visit was to congratulate the commissioner on her appointment.
Hinali added that the visit was also to seek for the ministry’s collaboration on nutrition issues and related healthcare programmes.
She said that NGOs have many healthcare supported projects that would bring positive development to the state through the ministry.
