The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Resident Electoral Officer for rerun of Ifako/Ijaiye federal bye-election in Lagos State, Abdulahi Kaugama, has on Thursday assured that every logistics required for seamless exercise has been put in place.
Kaugama, who spoke at a stakeholder forum in Ijaiye, said that they had no preference for any of the six political parties.
He listed the six political parties as; All Progressive Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) Action Alliance (AA) Alliance for Democracy (AD) African Democratic Congress (ADC) and Social Democratic Party (SDP)
He said assured that card readers have been tested with backup to ensure that there is no delay in voting process.
Kaugama said “We have tested our Card Readers and we have provided enough backup to ensure that there is to vacuum for complains and delay in voting process. The Card Readers have been programmed to commence work at 8 am. The poll will end at 2 pm. Time is our concern in this poll.”
He however, cautioned party agents to be wary of crisis by adhering to the rule saying that the commission would not halt voting process if party agents are not present at the polling units.
Kaugama said, “We have been working and discussing with the state party officials to ensure that their agents are deployed to each polling units. But if they fail to do that, it will not stop us from conducting our poll. We need the assistance of the party agents but non-availability of party agents will not stop us from conducting the poll. I want to urge all political party agents to visit INEC centre to witness the distribution of both sensitive and non-sensitive materials.”
