The governing council of Lagos State University‎ (LASU), Ojo, has demoted a lecturer, Olatunji Abanikannda, from professorial cadre to a senior lecturer over alleged lack of requisite papers and journals.
The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, who confirmed the development to newsmen in Lagos, said that the lecturer’s demotion was a decision taken by the governing council, adding that the university management had implemented it.
The Guild learnt that the university’s decision followed petition against Abanikannda, a former Professor of Animal Breeding and Genetics by Academic Staff Union of Universities (‎ASUU), LASU chapter.
The union had petitioned the governing council, headed by Prof. Adebayo Ninolowo, alleging that the institution’s former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Obafunwa, promoted the lecturer without due process.
It was gathered that a five-man panel‎ was set up to investigate allegations levelled against the lecturer and the panel, after several meetings and investigations, recommended the demotion of the lecturer.
Also, the council reprimanded the former vice-chancellor and current ‎Registrar of the institution, Akinwunmi Lewis, for taking certain decisions contrary to laid down rules and regulations ‎of the university.
