The Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency has commenced programmes in the media to educate and enlighten the people in the state on the dangers of Lassa fever, as farm produce returns home from farmlands.

The Chairman of the agency, Mr Adamu Gamawa, disclosed this in an interview with newsmen in Bauchi on Tuesday.

Gamawa said the action was to ensure that through the Mass media both urban and rural dwellers would be reached.

“We have since started airing sensitisation jingles and education messages on the various media organisations to reach both the people in the urban and the rural areas.

According to the Chairman, the period for the disease has set in and farm inputs are being brought home as well, these rats could follow the farm inputs home and become nuisance in the society.

“As such people should be cautious and vigilant on how they keep their food items, so that it will not be contaminated by the rodents faeces and urine,’’ he said.

The chairman urged members of the public to maintain personal and environmental hygiene in order to improve the overall public health.
