Italian Serie A side, Inter Milan, has released a statement confirming they would announce a new head coach in next few days, with Stefano Pioli favourite to land the role.
Inter sacked De Boer on Tuesday after a disappointing start to the season which has left them languishing in mid-table, while Youth team coach, Stefano Vecchi, was handed interim charge but could not prevent a 2-1 loss to Southampton in Europa League on Thursday.
The likes of Gianfranco Zola, Marcelinho and Guus Hiddink were linked with the role, but former Lazio coach, Pioli has emerged as the favourite and Inter would announce their decision in a few days.
“FC Internazionale wishes to confirm that our new head coach will be announced in the next 48 hours. Various meetings have been held over the last few days as the club has sought to identify the right man to take the team forward. A change within the club’s management structure is also due to be announced.
“In the meantime, we are focusing all our attention on winning an important football match against Crotone this afternoon.” read a statement.
