The management of Yaba College of Technology (Yabatech) Lagos State, has announced resumption of academic activities following temporary suspension due to a fire incident which gutted a female hostel at the instruction.
The College’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Dr Charles Oni, said that all activities which had been suspended after the fire incident, would begin on Tuesday, November 29, adding that semester examinations which were halted, would also be continued on Wednesday.
It would be recalled that the management had on November 23, directed that all academic activities and ongoing examinations be suspended, following a fire outbreak in Bakassi female hall.
It was gathered the incident was reported to have left a number of students with varying degrees of injuries, with some of them, still hospitalized.
“Academic activities of the Yaba College of Technology, Akoka, Yaba, Lagos, will resume on Tuesday, November 29, while examination continues on Wednesday, November 30.
“As at Friday, when the representative of the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, visited the college, only two students were still on admission at the Military Hospital, Yaba.” Oni said.
The PRO debunked claims that the polytechnic had shut the school down totally, since the fire incident, stressing that non-academic activities had been ongoing in the college.
“Contrary to the rumours making rounds in the media, the college did not completely close down, because normal work is going on, except the academic activities that were suspended.’’ Oni disclosed.
