THE Federal Executive Council on Wednesday faulted the claim by the Senate that the 2017-2019 Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) and Fiscal Sustainability Paper submitted by President Muhammadu Buhari was empty.
The Budget and National Planning Minister, Udoma Udoma who faulted the claim while addressing state house correspondents after the FEC meeting presided over by President Buhari maintained that extensive consultations with the private sector were made before presenting the MTEF.
He said the estimates in the document at the time of its submission were bound to change due to the changes in the exchange rate.
The Senate had recently dismissed the document, describing it as empty and not worth considering.
Udoma said that whenever the executive appeared before the National Assembly to defend the document, it would engage the legislators and explain each item to them.
He disclosed that the FEC approved the 2017 Appropriation Bill preparatory to its transmission to the National Assembly for consideration and approval.
