In a bid to address silent health issues seldomly discussed openly in the community, Bounties Charity Initiative, popularly known as Bountiis, a prominent women’s non-governmental organization, hosted its highly anticipated health event, MHForum 4.0 with the theme, “Silent Pains,” in Lagos on November 5, 2023.
The event tackled critical topics including stress management and mental health, digestive health and menopause hormonal transition.
Held at Shamisdeen Adisa Thomas event hall in Ikeja G.R.A Lagos, the forum welcomed distinguished speakers who shared their knowledge and experiences on these often under-discussed health issues. Attendees engaged in panel sessions, posing questions and gaining insights on vital health concerns.
The event went beyond informative discussions. Attendees were offered free health tests, including blood sugar, body mass index analysis, and blood pressure testing. Gym activities, spa treatments, and massages were also provided to promote holistic well-being.
“Silent Pains” proved to be a tremendous success, unravelling crucial information on sensitive health issues that often remain undiscussed in the community. The hormonal panel session featured a team of Consultant Obstetric and Gynaecologists who highlighted that navigating menopause transitions alone can be overwhelming, but with appropriate lifestyle changes, the process can be subtle, making aging a more pleasant experience.
Dr. Khadijah Adabale, a Consultant Haematologist with the Lagos State government, stressed the importance of knowing when to slow down and prioritize sleep for brain health. During the digestive panel session, she encouraged women to prioritize their health above all odds.
Dr. Azizat Lebimoyo, a consultant psychiatrist at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), emphasized acknowledging people’s struggles without belittling their experiences or offering empty words of comfort. During the mental health panel session, she encouraged women to support one another, especially with the rising prevalence of depression in society.
The event provided a platform for attendees to learn from health experts and share their experiences, fostering an environment that promotes discussions on unique women-centric health concerns.
The Annual Muslimah Health Forum, organized by Bountiis Charity Initiative, continues to play a pivotal role in improving women’s well-being through impactful discussions, engagements, and free health screenings. This year’s event also featured women-centric activities such as SPA sessions and free gym classes on the event grounds.
