The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole said Nigeria decided to inaugurate the eHealth Committee because the country’s health sector faces daunting challenges, which it believes only Information and Communications Technology tools can resolve.
The Minister, while inaugurating the steering Committee to rejig the health sector using ICT tools, added that all over the world, the health sector has migrated from using manual tools to using technology, especially with data collection and what many people now called telemedicine.
“ICT has the potential to mitigate some of the challenges when appropriately applied. We want to harmonise the National eHealth strategy with ICT intervention, so as to get Universal Health Coverage (UHC),” the Minister said in Abuja.
He noted that the National eHealth Strategic Framework provides a vision and guide for alignment of current investments in technology within the health sector towards a digitalised health system that will help Nigeria achieve UHC by 2020.
