Edo: YDP declines appeal against Obaseki

 

The Young Democratic Party (YDP) has said that it will not appeal a court case challenging the election of Mr. Godwin Obaseki of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as governor of Edo State.

The party had gone to court seeking for the nullification of the election that produced Obaseki as governor on the grounds that the party’s logo was wrongfully printed in the ballot papers by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The National Chairman of YDP Comrade Emmanuel Bishop Amakiri, said in a statement that they are discontinuing the court case in the interest of democracy,  and urged Governor Obaseki to ensure an all-inclusive governance.

“Our gubernatorial candidate, Engr. Nurudeen Nwafero has also agreed with the party that their legal team should withdraw from the move for Appeal. In the interest of Democracy, we urge Governor Godwin Obaseki to ensure all inclusive governance,” Amakiri said.

In his New Year Message, the National Chairman of YDP, urged the Nigerian youths to massively register as members of the party as they enter 2017.

Amakiri said the party should be seen by every Nigerian youths as the only alternative for good future of Nigeria.

“We pray that 2017 will be a year of upliftment for the Nigeria youth. As youth, we faced several hurdles in the year 2016 and we at YDP belief that with total dedication, 2017 will be better.

“The youth have allowed themselves to be deceived by old politicians. 2017 will set the paste in the run for 2019 general elections. We are calling on all Nigerian youth to join YDP because the light has come,” he said.
