The All Progressives Congress, (APC) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu on Monday said that it was untrue that the party’s chieftains shun his rally because they dislike his candidacy.
According to him, failure of national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to attend the rally was due to grapevine information of his trip abroad to attend to his ill-health.
He said the party has been working as one political family to clinch victory in the gubernatorial polls scheduled to hold on Saturday.
Akeredolu who spoke in Lagos on at Afenifere Renewal Group’s, (ARG) endorsement of his candidacy, hinted that some other parties have pledged their support towards making his party win the election.
“I have said we are together and I am sure we are still together. Governor Abiola Ajimobi still called me yesterday. He came back into the country yesterday, his deputy was with us at the rally. We also heard information that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is still abroad attending to his health, he said.”
Meanwhile, ARG Chairman, Wale Oshun said the body’s support Akeredolu in Saturday’s poll was part of its tradition of endorsing most competent candidates in all elections held in South West.
Oshun said: “Certainly we are here to endorse him. Barrister Akeredolu has been one of us, he is one of us, he is an activist, a tested progressive and he strongly believes in the welfarist principles of the founders of the Afenifere.
“What is important at this stage is that he is the one that believes in the ideology of the political philosophy of yorubaland. One that believes in the principle that had been laid down by late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.”
