Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin beat hosts Kogi United FC of Lokoja 2-0 on Saturday in a 2016/2017 Nigeria National League (NNL) fixture during the Match Day Seven game which was played at the Confluence Stadium in Lokoja.
Both teams battled for supremacy throughout the first 45 minutes of the match but all efforts proved abortive as none of them could hit the net.
However, Michael Ohanu got the match’s first goal for the visiting team through a counter attack in the 56th minute, after a cross from Stephen Alfred.
The hosts nearly equalised in the 82nd minute of the game when a direct free kick from Tony Wilson hit the bar and bounced back to the penalty area.
Reacting to his side’s defeat, Kogi United’s coach Tunde Abdulrahman apologised for the defeat.
He however promised that his team would readjust and bounce back ahead of their subsequent games.
“I am optimistic that we will surely get good results in our subsequent games, which will make us to bounce back again,” the coach said.(NAN)
