The Naval Outpost Onitsha, Anambra said on Monday that it destroyed two wooden boats laden with petroleum products.
The Navy Capt. Mohammed Dahiru, Commander of the Outpost said the destruction was carried out on April 22 in the presence of other security agencies after the boats and products were intercepted in December 2016 along the River Niger waterway.
“We use this opportunity to send warning signal to operators within River Niger perpetrating illegality to have a re-think as it would no longer be tolerated.
“I will continue to go after them, and I will get them, especially now that our capability has been boosted by the naval authorities. My officers and men have intensified routine patrols which include fixed station and stop and search.
“For those using or want to use the River Niger waterway for legitimate activities are assured of adequate protection,” Dahiru said.
He, however, commended the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice-Admiral, Ibok Ibas, for providing the Outpost with good working equipment and accommodation.
Dahiru said that the Chief of Naval Staff had also boosted the human capacity of the outpost.
He also commended Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, for his continued support.
Dahiru lauded the people of the state, particularly the host community, Odekpe for their hospitality.
