Two male adults, one identified Mr Danjunma and the other name withheld, yesterday gave up the ghost as a building at High Way Police Barracks opposite Area F, Ikeja collapsed.
According to investigation conducted by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency’s officials, City News gathered that many people also were trapped.
Effort by the Agency’s officials in collaboration with men of Lagos State Fire Services, Nigeria Police (highway patrol) and the National Emergency Management Agency recovered the corpse and has been deposited at the Mainland Hospital Mortuary Yaba.
However, the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni who was present at the scene ordered the evacuation of residents living in the affected building as well as other dilapidated buildings and the immediate demolition of the affected block.
The General Manager LASEMA Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu said the Agency with other stakeholders has commence the immediate demolition of the affected building under the directive of the Commissioner of Police.
In another related development a fire incident at Nigeria Breweries Costain, Iganmu. According to the investigation carried out by the Agency’s Emergency Respone Team at the incident scene, it was revealed that the cause of the inferno could not be ascertained as the fire engulfed the pallet section of the brewery burning several numbers of pallets and crates.
The inferno was curtailed by the combined effort of the Agency’s Emergency Response Team and the Lagos Fire Services, Julius Berger and the Nigerian Red Cross. The prompt intervention of emergency responders helped to salvaged nearby warehouses side by side with the fence and other buildings around the complex.
The Genaral Manager LASEMA Mr. Adesina Tiamiyu said no casuaty was recorded in the incident but large numbers of goods were destroyed.
