Okada riders in Apapa area of Lagos State joined Irate mob on Thursday and killed Apapa Zonal Head of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, (LASTMA), S. Bakare while enforcing ban on activities.
Eyewitness account revealed that the mob, including Okada riders and touts descended on Bakare, killing him on the spot.
The LASTMA General Manager, Bashir Braimah confirmed that Bakare was killed at Point Road, Apapa while enforcing the road traffic law which banned Okada riders from plying 475 major roads in Lagos.
Also confirming the incident, the state Police command’s Public Relations Officer, Dolapo Badmos said that the killing was a mob action which cost the LASTMA officer his life.
Badmos added that the police had begun intensive manhunt to arrest the perpetrators and bring them to book.
Recently, the Lagos State Government announced plans to begin full crackdown on Okada riders in the state in a bid to stop them from plying the state’s highways.
The state acting Commissioner for Transportation, Anofiu Elegushi said the enforcement would be total as government could no longer condone Okada’s recklessness in the state.
