2018 World Cup Qualifiers: Super Eagles Beats Algeria 3 – 1

The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated their Algerian counterparts 3-1 in their second 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier match played at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Akwa-Ibom State.

Chelsea of England midfielder, Victor Moses scored brace while the team captain, John Mikel Obi scored one to register his name on the World Cup qualifier’s goal chart.

The first goal of the match played on a sunny Saturday came in the 25th minute of the game, placing the host in driving seat of a match desired by the Algerians to redeem their image after playing a draw at home to Cameroun.

Obi registered his name on the score sheet after he netted Nigeria’s second goal in the 42nd minute from a pass that looked offside.

The Algerians were at their best at the start of the second half and their performance paid off when Bentaleb scored in the 67th minute to reduce the tally to 2-1.

The visitors made every effort to equalise but were constantly stopped by the Eagles defense led by Leon Balogun.

Leicester FC of England player Ahmed Musa’s laid a beautiful pass as Victor Moses netted his second goal of the encounter in the 92nd minute to seal victory 3-1 for Nigeria.

The victory now placed Nigeria on top of the group with six points having defeated Zambia 2-1 in Ndola in the team’s first group match.

In the other group match played today Zambia held Cameroon to a 1-1 draw.

Super Eagles next match in the qualifying series will be against Cameroon on Aug. 28, 2017.
